Is it ok for men to cry?

My mum was cremated back in January 2023. When she passed away from Breast and bone cancer. The reason why I have brought this up is because itโ€™s relevant to whether itโ€™s acceptable for men to cry.

My dad was reading out her eulogy and started to break down in tears.ย Losing his wife of 40 years is one of the hardest things someone can go throughย I asked if he would like me to read the rest, which he said yes pleaseย

I read his beautiful peace about my mum and how much of an incredible person she was.ย Multiple National record holder in swimming, a dentist in two different languages, could play the piano, speak fluent French and could even play any song on the harmonica by just hearing the song.I just had to step up as man. This was the time, if thereโ€™s one place to be strong and not show emotion this was it.ย

Weโ€™re told by society you should always show emotion. I disagree.ย There are places where you need to make sure youโ€™re loved ones feel safe and protected round you. To make sure they know everything will be okย Weโ€™re told by social media that we never need to do what we donโ€™t want to do.

Absolute nonsense. Part of life is going through struggle and hardship.ย This is what teaches you can get through anything and most importantly makes you appreciate the good.Do you think this is something I wanted to do. No but it just had to be done.ย

Men will get told they need to show emotion more but when it suits people they have to hold back.If someone burgled your house. Is it toxic masculinity if a man holds back his fear and protects his family ?ย Or should he crumble and hide behind his wife ?ย

Of course itโ€™s acceptable for men to cry in certain circumstances but sometimes you need to just step up.

My mum is the one who taught me from a very young age how to treat women correctly and behave like a man.ย

I remember her making sure I pulled out her chair at dinner and shouting at me if I didnโ€™t open the car door for her ????

What a lot of people donโ€™t understand this is respect for women not control.ย Weโ€™re told by social media that we never need to do what we donโ€™t want to doย
